چکیده

Small and scattered patches of forests contrast sharply within the context flat monotonous dark green pastures in Dutch polder landscapes. These patches, with various types trees, are like little islands, surrounded by ditches. They not remnants original old peat swamp but farmers created past for particular purposes. Their names offer clear indications: addition to general name ‘small forests’ (polderbosjes) they called ‘pest (pestbosjes or krengenbosjes, places where contaminated dead animals were dumped), ‘farmers’ utility coppice (boerengeriefhoutbosjes hakhoutbosjes, from which collected all useful wood), ‘cow bends milk (koebochten melkbosjes, cows milked manure could be collected). With modernization agriculture alternative sources energy, many these forest islands have been cleared sake expanding pastures. However, increasingly also viewed a different perspective. Nowadays valued as an important element country’s (agri)cultural heritage, role play terms polders’ biodiversity (flora well fauna), has rapidly declined recent decades. In this article overview will given origin ‘forest islands’ how functioned landscape century often ignored aspect farmers’ knowledge practices. Attention paid present efforts maintain islands.

Recurrent and synchronous insect pest outbreaks in forests.

A minimal model for the interactions of trees, insects, and their enemies suggests a simple formula for splitting all forests where insect outbreaks can occur into two categories: where outbreaks are periodic and endogenously generated and where outbreaks are triggered by exogenous factors and are, in general, recurrent but aperiodic. The formula is in full agreement with all field studies in w...

Tree diversity reduces pest damage in mature forests across Europe

Forest pest damage is expected to increase with global change. Tree diversity could mitigate this impact, but unambiguous demonstration of the diversity-resistance relationship is lacking in semi-natural mature forests. We used a network of 208 forest plots sampled along two orthogonal gradients of increasing tree species richness and latitudes to assess total tree defoliation in Europe. We fou...

Mondrian Forests: Efficient Online Random Forests

Ensembles of randomized decision trees, usually referred to as random forests, are widely used for classification and regression tasks in machine learning and statistics. Random forests achieve competitive predictive performance and are computationally efficient to train and test, making them excellent candidates for real-world prediction tasks. The most popular random forest variants (such as ...

Modeling the Degradation of Hyrcanian Forests Using Logestic Regression Method (Case Study: Shenrood Forests, Guilan)

Having accurate quantitative and qualitative information about the state of forest stands, is necessary for any basic management and planning, to reduce the effects of forest degradation. The current study aimed to model the destruction of Hyrcanian forests under the effects of density and volume (per hectare) variables, using logistic regression. In total, 252 plots of 1000 m2 area were measur...

Randomer Forests

Random forests (RF) is a popular general purpose classifier that has been shown to outperform many other classifiers on a variety of datasets. The widespread use of random forests can be attributed to several factors, some of which include its excellent empirical performance, scale and unit invariance, robustness to outliers, time and space complexity, and interpretability. While RF has many de...
